Regular visits to our Hygienist will not only help you keep a beautiful smile but also improve your dental health. It will also prevent gum disease, reduce bleeding gums, bad breath and dental decay. Our hygienist will advise you on how to clean your teeth properly, help you to clean those difficult to reach areas and advise what oral health products are best suited to your particular needs.
If your teeth are particularly sensitive local anaesthetic can be provided to make the appointment as comfortable as possible. Prevention is a key part of the process and we are here to discuss any concerns you may have and offer advice on diet, smoking cessation and your daily oral health needs.
Gum disease
Gum disease, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and, without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth. Gum disease can cause teeth to loosen or lead to tooth loss. Gum disease is common but largely preventable, with help from our hygienist.
Treatment of gum disease involves a dentist or hygienist cleaning tartar build ups from around the teeth and gums. This enables the pockets to heal and the gum to become healthy. This initial treatment can help control gum disease, but it is vital to keep your gums in a healthy condition by using a good tooth brushing technique twice a day and rinse with mouthwash. Arranging regular check-ups with your hygienist every 6 months will help maintain healthy gums.
Why children need to see a hygienist
Children can find it particularly hard to remove plaque or tartar in hard to reach places which can build up over time. Our hygienist will carry out a full scale and polish of all of the teeth. They will encourage children and students and demonstrate tooth brushing techniques. They may also recommend oral hygiene products which will help them with their oral care at home.
How long the treatment will take
Treatment will initially commence with the removal of plaque and tartar form every surface of every tooth, this usually takes 30 minutes. For routine cleanings the teeth will also be fully polished. For more extensive treatments appointments, these will be spread out over 2 to 3 visits depending on your requirements and the health of your gums.
How much does an appointment with our Dental Hygienist cost?
The fee for an appointment with our Dental Hygienist is €75, and we recommend that you arrange a check-up every six months to ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy.
