Dental Extractions in Dublin

Tooth removal is never a pleasant experience but unfortunately there are times when we cannot restore a tooth to its natural form and extraction is the only option. We will always discuss tooth removal with you and prepare you as best as possible for the procedure in order to make you as comfortable as possible.

Why would I need a Dental Extraction

This may be due to a large amount of tooth decay, severe gum disease or a very badly broken or cracked tooth. Often extractions may be planned as part of a treatment plan in order to prepare for placement of implants, bridges, braces or provision of dentures.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

The removal of wisdom teeth, which are the four teeth at the back of your mouth, is a common procedure. Wisdom teeth can cause problems for some people because of the lack of space available in a person’s mouth when they break through the gum. This can cause them to emerge at an angle, get stuck or impact other teeth, which can cause irritation, pain, swelling or infection. In this case, wisdom tooth removal would be recommended.

How do you perform a Dental Extraction?

When we extract a tooth, we use a local anaesthetic, which will numb your mouth. This means you will be awake during the procedure but won’t feel any pain. The time required for a tooth extraction procedure depends on the condition of your tooth and where it is located in your mouth. To extract the tooth, we will gently move the tooth to loosen it, to the point where it can be extracted.

Recovery Time for a Dental Extraction

After the removal of a tooth, a gauze pad will be placed into the socket to stop the bleeding. You should be able to return to work the next day and control any mild discomfort with paracetamol or another over-the-counter medication if required.

The site of the extraction should heal completely after 1-2 weeks if you follow our advice. This recovery timemay be longer for wisdom teeth and for multiple extractions.

How much does a Dental Extraction cost?

The cost for dental extractions varies depending on the time taken and the number of teeth to be extracted. Our prices range from €90 – €130 for a routine extraction, and €150 – €200 for a surgical extraction. To learn more about our dental extractions at Dun Laoghaire Dental give us a call on 01 2809576 or or contact us at info@dunlaoghairedental.ie to arrange a consultation.
